On Jan. 14 Michael Ignatieff spoke to well over a hundred young Canadians who want to make a difference. (Parts 1 and 2 can be seen here) In Part 3 Michael Ignatieff is asked about the future and security of the Canadian Pension Plan and the implications for today's youth.
In his response Michael acknowledges that the pensions today are in trouble, and emphasizes that we need to find a solution. He also makes reference to the successful record of Paul Martin in refinancing the CPP in 1998 and 1999. He goes on to conclude:
"The key point I'm making here is, freelance, the people living freelance, the people betting the store on a good idea, can't put money into pension. So we got to add pension protection for the self-employed, we got to get pension protection for the adventurous ones in our society."
