Let's Just Drop The Afghan Detainee Abuse Scandal

In regards to this Afghan detainee abuse scandal, I’m personally on the side of the government on this one; we should just drop the whole thing altogether. Trying to find out whether the Canadian government committed war crimes in Afghanistan is like asking your doctor if he’s ever done time, all it does is make things awkward.

As Canadians we don’t really need to know if our government committed war crimes anyway, that’s why we elect them, to do the dirty work of breaking international law. Can you imagine if after a long day working in the office and looking after the kids you had to torture an Afghan? It would be brutal.

For months we have had to go through the drudgery of seeing story after story appear about whether this government knowingly handed over prisoners to be tortured in Afghanistan, but for what?

All that we’ve got to show for it is one Richard Colvin who was attacked by the government for blowing the whistle on it, a prolonged Afghan committee investigation because Conservative MPs stopped attending its meetings, a constitutional crisis because the government won’t hand over important documents, and then of course the prorogation that was meant to avoid the investigation completely.

With the appointment of Frank Iacobucci to report directly and solely to the Conservative Justice Minister, we Canadians have an opportunity to not ever hear about our government, torture, and war crimes. We just have to cross our fingers that the opposition doesn’t blow this and make this into a big scandal that only makes the Conservatives look bad. Because, as we all know, that’s the only real crime going on here.

Quite ironic given that the Liberals are more likely just roll over and let the Conservatives do whatever they want.... just saying...

I hope the Liberals do roll over. It would be completely wrong for the Conservatives to be kicked out of office for just torturing human beings, especially when the Liberals had the sponsorship scandal and all that happened to them was they lost power for years and those responsible were sent to jail.

And the NDP they should never be allowed to have power because they brought us socialized medicine. And you know what comes along with that - Death Panels.

You are accusing who of torturing human beings, Scott?
MPs, the PM, Ministers?

How old are you?

Wilson I must admit I am but a naive immature child when compared to someone of your reputation.

I am just so dumb to think our government is responsible for its own actions.

How could I think that our Conservative government is responsible for detainees being tortured by the Afghan army when it was responsible for handing those same detainees over?

You know Wilson, I think the International Court of Justice may be wrong too... And of course the international law that goes with it. Oh and we can't forget those governments that signed onto those laws.

Wilson,

Where were you when Bush and Cheney repeatedly said that Iraq was responsible for 9/11?

Maria, what are you thinking, dear? Of course Iraq and namely Saddam Hussein were responsible for 9/11. Yeesh!

But Scott, you're absolutely right, the only fun they can have in a place like Afghanistan is to torture little brown people, who are we to take that sole source of amusement away?

Do you have a mole inside the Liberal caucus, cuz (aside from the last sentence) your posting sounds like a transcript of an Iggy speech to his troops?
