Bob Rae And Wayne Easter Blast Guergis In Question Period

In today's Question Period MPs Bob Rae and Wayne Easter took on the public relations fiasco that is Helena Guergis and attacked the Prime Miinister for not doing anything to stop the continual embarrassment she brings.

The whole exchange involved Bob Rae, Stephen Harper, Helena Guergis, Wayne Easter, and John Baird. The revolving Conservative response for Helena Guergis, not to mention the ignoring of statements questioning her merits, highlighted how the government was clearly on their heels throughout the interaction. It was as if Conservatives themselves acquiesed to Guergis being a liability for their Party and tried to change the subject rather than attempt to defend her.

Of interest in the two videos below is that Bob Rae alleges that there are now five assistants to MP Helena Guergis who had hid their identities in order to write letters to editors of various newspaper praising her, only deepening the current scandal.

Wayne Easter was by far the most entertaining in his aggressive questioning of the Minister of State for the Status of Women. When John Baird stood up in her defense, Mr. Easter memorably spouted:

"Mr.Speaker has there already been a trip to Rideau Hall? The usually bombastic Minister of Transport seems to be now the meek and mild Minister for Public Apologies for the cabinet."

I am not a fan of Ms. Guergis but shills and politicians have been a pair for many years. Like Garth Turner knocking on a stranger's (relative) door. And Martin's day care letters of recommendations that were written by Young Liberals. No big deal for either party.

Prairie kid if I could I must compliment you for your clear neutrality in this matter, not many people can say they aren't fans of Guergis then go on to defend her like that.

It is blatantly clear you are a person of sheer honesty and one who would never hide their true motives. Thank you for your comment Helena- I mean Jessica- I mean Victoria- I mean...

Prairie Kid lets not forget Harper's amazing ability to lift speeches from Australia> Then again I guess that ruins your flawed argument.

Christ I hope she doesn't get booted to the backbenches. Her "hoof in mouth" disease is hilarious. My brother lives in her riding and claims a lot of her constituents have come to loathe her.

Hey Kid! Grow up.

So nobody disputed my comments about Liberals doing the same thing . . . interesting.

And in your second comment you didn't dispute the fact you were Helena Guergis... Interesting.

But Prairie Kid as you clearly know more about politics, history, and morality than I, could you direct me to the Liberal MP(s) who did the samething as Guergis?

There must be a Liberal MP who used his or her staff to write letters to editors posing as other people to praise the MP or why would you have said Liberals had done the samething? You're definitely not a liar so could you please cite the Liberal MPs who did the exact samething? Thanks Kiddo

Clearly, this has nothing to do with objectivity and everything to do with getting those cheap shots in.
.. as Easter said in that Toronto Sun article regarding this: .. “We’re not talking about the past. We’re talking about today,”

Classy folks here.

Ridenrain you are perfectly right once again, your correctness knows no limits. For as I recall no body can point out injustices today without pointing out every sinlge one that occurred to other people years ago.

Yes Ridenrain you are beyond reproach in your reasoning, as courts can't determine guilt on one person if another person got away with a crime 5 years ago.

Good for you ridenrain to point this out for everybody. Keep on fighting the good fight and remember knowledge is power, you're a testament to that.

You asked for examples:

Indeed, as reported during the 2005 federal election, Liberal Party operatives, mainly from the youth wing, initiated a letter-writing campaign to media outlets across the country praising Paul Martin’s national child-care proposal and bashing Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
One of the many letters was reportedly written by a former speech writer for Jean Chretien and another by a once national director of the Young Liberals.
In those instances none of the authors identified their ties to the party.
In 2000, a letter to the editor of QMI Agency’s Sarnia Observer was extremely critical of Preston Manning and the Reform Party.
It was later revealed it had been written by an assistant to a neighbouring Liberal MP.

Clearly, this isn't the first time that political staff sent letters that mis-represented themselves but you and Easter don't want to hear about that.
I seem to recall a whole series of Paul Martin Campaign commercials that had Liberal staff pretending to be casual people on the street too.
Time for a fresh can of "righteous indignation".

Ridenrain I don't seem to have asked you for examples, if I recall I had been addressing that comment to Prairie Kid, but interesting enough you two share the same ISP address gee that's a coincidence huh big guy? Wow hmm what are the chances? What Conservative MP did you say you work for again?

ridenrain said...

lol. Nice spin.

Why can't you address the topic instead of spinning fiction about the messenger? It's clear that this is just another chip off the old communion wafer.

thescottross.blogspot.com said...

Ridenrain if you would do me the honour, could I change the name of this blog to "Ridenrain"? It can be a blog where all the assistants to Conservative MPs come and pretend to be multiple commentators to appear like they hold some general opinion. Wouldn't that be great?

And since you're really earning your staffer pay cheque tonight, in reference to your argument that Guergis is justified because the Liberals did it, I'll refer you to the comment I addressed to you earlier, you know the one where I said:

If you're going to comment again Ridenrain could you maybe comment this time as Admiral Ackbar, it would be really cool to have a Rebel leader comment, even if it's really a conservative's assistant.

Nice. I wish I still had that amount of humour to respond to that indefatiguable and perennial troll, Prairie Kid. As it stands, I'm usually reduced to screaming obscenities at the shameless and insufferable Conservative shill.

You people need to get over your partiscanship. ALL governments do flaky things to get attention and be underhanded period.

thescottross.blogspot.com said...

Anyong thank you for your fortune cookie-like comment clearly I'm the one being partisan for commenting on what an MP and her staff actually did and not you for infringing on my freedom of speech.

Clearly an ordinary citizen's ability to scrutinize an elected official is partisan and you telling them to stop isn't.

Thank you Anyong, and thank you for giving your real name so we know for sure that you're not some anonymous Conservative staffer.

It doesn't matter who you asked or who provided the information. The fact is that you now have the information, and you now stand corrected. You just made a fool of yourself by *assuming* that there were no readily available examples of Liberals engaging in phony letter writing campaigns, and now you're trying to save face by insulting the poster who just slapped you down.

If you were even half as clever as you think you are, Scott, you would have checked out your question BEFORE you asked it, and avoided all this embarrassment...

Fred, I bow down, you have bested me. There is no way I can beat someone who selectively reads only half of a comment. You have humbled me.

I have, yes. But I'm not the only one.

Like I said, do a little research before embarrassing yourself. Sarcasm and insults may make you feel better, but they really can't extricate you from a losing argument. Seriously.

Fred you are the best. Keep up the great work.
